Reed Deans and Provosts

Reed College has had six Provosts and/or Deans of the Faculty (the title was changed from Provost to Dean of the Faculty in 1993):

Marvin Levich, VP/Provost 1972-79
G. Frank Gwilliam, Provost 1979-82
Marshall W. Cronyn, VP/Provost 1982-88
Douglas C. Bennett, VP/Provost 1989-93
Linda H. Mantel, Dean of Faculty 1993-97

The current Dean, Peter Steinberger, assumed office in 1997.  A member of the faculty since 1977, he is also the Robert H. and Blanche Day Ellis Professor of Political Science and Humanities, and was Acting President of the College during the 2001-02 academic year. During that year Ellen Keck Stauder served as Acting Dean of the Faculty.
