In addition, eligible faculty and staff may choose to elect supplemental life and AD&D insurance for themselves and dependents.

Short and long term disability insurance

The short-term disability plan is self insured by Reed. The college pays 60% of salary after all accrued sick leave and vacation leave is used if you are disabled for six months or more.

The long-term disability plan provides a monthly income equal to 60% of basic monthly earnings, not to exceed the maximum monthly benefit of $7,500, beginning after 180 days of disability.

Retirement

403(b) retirement savings plan

Regular faculty and staff working at least half time are eligible for Reed contributions into the plan after one year of service. Once eligible, Reed contributes the equivalent of 10% of earnings into the plan. Eligible faculty and staff are also able to make their own voluntary contributions. The funds in this plan are held by the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA) and College Retirement Equities Fund (CREF). Participants are immediately vested when the first contribution is made. Both the TIAA and CREF accumulations belong to the individual, regardless of whether or not he/she continues to be employed by Reed.

Retiree medical contribution

Regular faculty and staff working at least half time are eligible for contributions starting at age 40. The college makes a monthly contribution to a retirement medical account in your name. Contributions begin at age 40 and continue for 25 years while working.
