Tango for Musicians at Reed College
Tango for Musicians at Reed College is North America's leading tango workshop for musicians, providing the tools needed to play, arrange, compose, improvise, and teach this rich and diverse musical form. Emphasizing technique and creativity, history and the present, Tango for Musicians at Reed College is dedicated to opening the mysteries of tango music for players of any instrument in a welcoming, supportive, and professional environment. Whether you are completely new to tango or have been playing for many years, our amazing artistic faculty from Buenos Aires, coordinated by Tango Sin Fin, will give you what you need to learn, explore, and experiment with tango in deep and meaningful ways.
Who is it for?
Tango for Musicians at Reed College is open to all musicians of all levels who are interested in playing, arranging, composing, and enjoying tango music.
The program includes a daily schedule of activities in a welcoming and supportive environment, providing a rich experience of tango music and friendship.
All instruction and educational materials will be presented in English.
For the 2024 edition, we have a new approach from previous years. Pre-formed ensembles and musicians looking to join Arrangers & Composers activities need to apply. The registration fee is the same for all participants.
Advanced Tango Players
If you are an advanced tango player, do not miss the chance to join the Pugliese Style Advanced Orquesta Típica. Just register and choose that option as your preferred one.
TFM Community Tango Orchestra
If you are an amateur musician, tango lover, or dancer who plays a little, join the Tango for Musicians Community Tango Orchestra! You may also join some of the specific classes we have designed for you!
Arrangers & Composers
If you would like to learn more about arranging or composing tango music, apply to join the Arrangers & Composers program. We have designed a whole new experience for 2024. By joining this program, you can also do all the activities planned as a musician.
Pre-formed Ensembles
If you are coming with your whole tango ensemble, apply for one of the five available spots! For the 2024 edition, pre-formed ensembles will premiere a new arrangement or original music. And everyone can join the open rehearsals and be part of one TFM ensemble.
