2018 Edition

The sixth edition of Tango for Musicians at Reed College built on our record of excellence in tango music education.

More than 60 participants joined us from across the United States and abroad, some coming from as far as Southeast Portland and others from as close as Australia. Participants enjoyed our diverse and rigorous curriculum, including instrumental techniques, ensembles, and tango styles and history, all of which were guided by our amazing artistic faculty. 2018 also marked the debut of our Tango for Arrangers program, which allowed participants to hone and develop their personal voices in the wonderful tradition of tango arrangement. The Tango for Arrangers program concluded with a concert featuring the music participants developed over the course of the week, featuring our ensemble in residence the Redwood Tango Ensemble. Other public events included our closing concert featuring our wonderful artistic faculty, a performance showcase featuring student ensembles, a tango social dance or “milonga” with live music for dancing, and a tango singalong around an outdoor campfire. We look forward to building upon what we learned in the 2018 edition in order to make our 2020 edition even better.

Testimonials from 2018 participants:

Thank you to ALL the staff for your warmth, professionalism, and teaching from your heart.

Amazingly great experience. Can't imagine a more vibrant, talented and supportive group of musicians.

Amazing, terrifying, inspiring, demoralizing, enlightening, frustrating, fun, exhilarating, tiring. I think that's pretty much how it should go anyway: Challenge, practice, progress, payoff, plan for future growth.
