We assembled this comprehensive guide to campus and Portland resources to help students connect to support, community, and safe transportation during this difficult time. Transportation
The Reed Night Bus: The Night Bus is a shuttle service that helps students who live off-campus get home safely at night. Hours of operation and shuttle boundary information can be found on the Community Safety Services webpage.
Lyft: Ride-share company Lyft recently circulated this message on its Twitter page: "Reports of anti-LGBTQ violence in Portland, OR have left many in our community feeling unsafe. If you’re in Portland and need help getting home safely, DM @Lyft [on Twitter or Instagram] and we’ll respond soon with a $15 ride credit."
Safe Rides PDX: Safe Rides PDX is a local organization dedicated to providing safe transportation for people who are at high risk of harassment, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+ people, and women. Rides are available 24 hours a day and can be scheduled between 9am–5pm daily. Text or call 503-455-7077 to schedule a ride.
Community Safety: You can request an escort to and from buildings on-campus by calling Community Safety at 503-517-5355, or text CSOs at 503-849-8678. Community Safety provides campus escort services 24 hours a day.
Housing
Temporary on-campus housing: If you feel unsafe in your off-campus or on-campus residence, temporary emergency on-campus housing can be arranged by contacting Community Safety (after hours: 503-517-5355) or Care Team (business hours: careteam@reed.edu; 503-517-7396). Temporary on-campus housing is free to current students and available for up to 72 hours.
Permanent on-campus housing: Students can also arrange for a permanent transition on-campus by contacting Residence Life at res-life@reed.edu or 503-777-7536.
Mental Health Support
Health & Counseling Center: The HCC offers walk-in crisis appointments every weekday at 3pm. Students can also schedule a counseling appointment by calling 503-777-7281 or visiting the HCC on the northwest corner of campus. Counseling is free to all enrolled students.
Reed After Hours Crisis Line: Students can talk with a free and confidential licensed counselor by calling 866-432-1224. Available 24 hours a day.
Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741 to connect to a trained crisis counselor. Available 24 hours a day.
Multnomah County Mental Health Crisis: Mental health crisis support and access to Project Respond, a mobile crisis counselor program to help facilitate access to psychiatric inpatient hospital care. Call 503-988-4888 for consultation. Available 24 hours a day.
Reed Sexual Assault Prevention & Response: Sexual Assault Prevention & Response (SAPR) advocates are highly trained Reed students who provide a wide range of confidential services for survivors of sexual harassment, sexual assault, relationship abuse, and stalking. Advocates offer emotional support, information about options and campus processes, referral to medical care, counseling and other resources, and reporting assistance to the college and/or police. Students can contact any SAPR directly by calling or texting the response line at 503-847-9772, or emailing sapradvocates@reed.edu. Response time is within 24 hours.
Call to Safety: Crisis support, follow-up advocacy, in-person medical advocacy, and support groups for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Call 503/235-5333 (available 24 hours a day) or text 503-235-5333 (available Monday–Fridays from 11 a.m.–3 p.m.).
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for students and loved ones. Call 1-800-273-TALK or use the chat feature on their website. Available 24 hours a day.
The Trevor Project LGBTQ Suicide Hotline: A crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline for LBGTQ+ youth and young adults. Call 866-488-7386 (available 24 hours a day) or text START to 678678 (available 7 days a week from 12–7 p.m. PST).
Lines for Life: Lines for Life is a regional non-profit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. Call 800-273-8255 or text 273TALK to 8398631. Available 24 hours a day.
Emergency mental health care
Cascadia Urgent Behavioral Health Walk-In Clinic: Mental health emergencies and crisis support, including emergency medication refills. Open Mondays–Sundays from 7am – 10:30pm. 4212 SE Division Street, Suite 100, Portland.
Cedar Hills Hospital: Short term inpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment; outpatient services include day treatment and intensive outpatient care. Call 503-844-5000 to set up an intake appointment or present in-person. Available 24 hours a day. 10300 SW Eastridge St, Portland.
Crisis Assessment and Treatment Center (CATC): Mental health respite center for acute mental health crises for individuals who are on the Oregon Health Plan or who are uninsured. Stays can range 1-7 days on average; all stays are voluntary. Available 24 hours a day. Call direct at 503-232-1099, or call the Multnomah County Crisis Line at 503-988-4888 if the direct line is busy. 30 NE MLK Blvd., Portland.
Adventist Emotional Wellness Center: Intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization program for acute mental health crisis. Open Mondays–Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. Call 503-261-5953 to access. 10101 SE Main Street, Portland.
Academic Support
The Dean's Office: The Dean's Office in collaboration with the Reed Care Team helps coordinate support services for students in distress and those needing assistance in navigating campus resources. Safety Resources
For on-campus emergencies, please call Community Safety at 503/788-6666. For off-campus emergencies, dial 911.
Community Safety: Community Safety is open 24 hours a day, including weekends and days the college is closed. CSOs assist with on-campus safety and security issues. For on-campus emergencies, call 503-788-6666. For non-urgent situations, call the CSOs at 503-517-5355, text 503-849-8678, or walk-in to 28 West for assistance.
Mental health support: Students can talk with a free and confidential licensed counselor by calling the Reed After Hours Counseling Line at 866-432-1224. See Mental Health Care Resources for additional emergency, hospital, and crisis line resources.
Medical assistance: Students can call the Community Careline at 800-607-5501 to consult with a registered nurse, 24 hours a day at no charge. Visit the HCC website for information on local urgent clinics and hospitals.
Portland Community Events & Support
Safe Queer PDX Instagram account: The Safe Queer PDX account provides queer community advisories, resources and support.
Coalition of Communities of Color: "If you have experienced, witnessed or heard about hate incidents occurring in Portland, please consider reporting to our hate incident tracking system www.reporthatepdx.com. We are tracking and responding to violence targeting our communities along with our partners in Portland United Against Hate."
Q Center: "Through our work with the Portland United Against Hate coalition, Q Center is a location where community members can report bias incidents and hate crimes without interfacing with law enforcement. Community can report anonymously online at reporthatepdx.com or in person by contacting Page Smith (page@pdxqcenter.org, 503-234-7873, x102).
Additionally, Q Center will be offering a number of action oriented workshops to support community members and allies in combating hateful language and actions. Free workshops open to the general public through June include, “Interrupting Hate” and “What Is A Hate Crime?” Please visit our Facebook page (@pdxqcenter) for more details.

Popular Mobilization is offering a free event at PICA (15 NE Hancock St) on Saturday, March 2, called Our Streets! Community Safety Day. It includes workshops on: self-defense basics, situational awareness, de-escalation, and Know Your Rights with the Police. There will be refreshments, bodywork consults, free safety supplies and more. Event details can be found here.
