Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Russian major Brandon Marrow '18 has been chosen to serve as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Russia. In addition to his work in the classroom, Brandon hopes to use chess as a tool to explore the intersection of American and Russian cultures.  At Reed, Brandon spent his time playing piano, translating documents into Russian for the Portland Tenants Union, and working with Russian students at the Kelly Elementary school. He received an Undergraduate Research grant to look at the manuscripts of Leningrad poet Olga Berggolts in the Russian State Archive for Literature and the Arts in Moscow. He hopes to build on this experience on his return from Russia by continuing to work with Russian-speaking emigres in the United States.
