Mac Setup Instructions

1. Go to the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Print & Fax.
2. Click the "+" button to add a new printer.
   
3. Click the Default icon at the top.
4. Select the printer from the list that appears.
   
5. Click the Add button.
6. From the Installable Options window, check the Duplex Unit box if that printer supports duplexing (see our duplex list below).
   
7. Click Continue.
8. Now the printer has been added to your computer! See our instructions below for releasing your print job.

Windows Setup Instructions

We recommend using this method for older versions of Windows (before Windows 7, i.e. XP and Vista).

1. Download Windows Web Printing from https://downloads.reed.edu.
2. Double-click Windows-Web-Printing.exe (use the Windows-Web-Printing-x64.exe file if you're running a 64-bit opperating system).
3. At the Select Components window, check all the printers that you wish to install and click Next through the end of the installer. Note: If you select many printers, the installation will take a while, so be patient. Windows 7 users will need to let the installer update their system before continuing.
4. After installation, a "Print Release Login" shortcut is added to the Desktop, along with an item in Start > Programs > ReedApps > Printing.
5. Now see our instructions below for releasing your print job.

Windows Manual Setup Instructions

If you are using Windows 7 or 8, and you'd like to install your printers manually, follow these instructions:

1. Navigate to "Devices and Printers" section in your "Control Panel".
2. In the top bar of the window, click the "Add Printer" button.
   NOTE: If you're using Windows 7, it may be necessary to click "Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer" on the resulting popup screen.
3. You should see a "Searching for printers..." window. We don't want any of these printers; click "The printer that I want isn't listed".
4. THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP: Choose the "Select a shared printer by name" option. Do NOT choose to add a printer by TCP/IP name or any other method. In the adjacent box to this option, enter one of our printer addresses listed below, and click "Next".
5. Another popup window should appear, this time asking for you to choose the appropriate drivers for the printer. Choose a driver and click "OK".
   
   Here are the driver selections we recommend that should work for the majority of printers on campus:
   HP LaserJet 4250: "HP -> HP LaserJet 4200 PCL 6" (Windows 7) or "HP -> HP LaserJet 4200/4300 PCL6 Class Driver" (Windows 8)
   HP LaserJet P4014: "HP -> HP LaserJet P4014/P4015 PCL6" (Windows 7) or "HP -> HP LaserJet P4014/P4015 PCL6 Class Driver" (Windows 8)
   NOTE: For a special printer whose model is not listed as one of the two options above, please find the appropriate driver that relatively matches its name.
6. At this point, the wizard should have successfully added the printer! There is no need to enable any sharing options for the printer (and is probably best not to).
7. Now see our instructions below for releasing your print job.

Linux with CUPS Support

Ubuntu

1. Choose System -> Administration -> Printing
2. Choose New -> Printer
3. Choose Network Printer -> Internet Printing Protocol and fill in the host ozone.reed.edu:631
   
4. Click Find Queue and select the printer you want. Be sure to pick one with "web" in the name.
   
5. Give the printer a name and you're done. Repeat to add other printers.

 

Releasing Your Print Job (Mac, Windows, Linux)

After printing your document, you must release your print job from the web.

1. Go to http://printing.reed.edu.
2. Click on Jobs Pending Release.
3. Under the Action column, click the Print link for the job you wish to print.
   NOTE: You may see jobs other than your own on this page. This behavior is normal. Once you hit print, the job will be sent to the printer indicated and your account will be charged.

5. If printing to a group of printers (ie, IRC web, Library North Ref, Library Reading Room), you must then select a particular printer from that group.
