Economics Post-Baccalaureate Research Fellowship

The Economics Post-Baccalaureate Research Fellowship provides support for one graduating senior or one recent graduate from Reed's economics department each year to participate in an economics related program or position that would otherwise be unfunded.

This fellowship is offered by the Economics Department and administered by the Center for Life Beyond Reed.

Application Deadline

Wednesday May 1st, 2024 at 12 PM noon

Eligibility

Applicants must

  • be economics majors;
  • be a current Reed senior who will graduate this May, or a Reed alum who graduated on or after December 2022;
  • have already been offered admission or a placement or position;
  • not have been a previous recipient of the Economics Post-Baccalaureate Research Fellowship.

Eligible Opportunities

The fellowship is intended to support one year of a full-time post-baccalaureate research experience to further the field of economics.

Eligible programs or positions need to be economics-related, unpaid or unfunded, and include:

  • Graduate level study

Unfunded opportunities will be given priority for funding. Underfunded programs or positions will only be considered if there are no eligible unfunded applicants.

Applicants are required to have already been accepted to their degree program or been offered a position or placement to apply for this fellowship.

Eligible opportunities should include full time work or enrollment over a period of time that is approximately equivalent to an academic year (or longer).

Benefits

This fellowship will provide $40,000 in funding for one fellow each year, and funds will be distributed directly to the recipient. No further funds are available, and fellows may not reapply for further funding from this fellowship.

Fellows may opt to receive the funds in two payments, or as a lump sum. The college is not required to report this award to the IRS; however, all or a portion of this award may be taxable based on your personal income tax situation. Reed College does not provide tax advice, and fellows are advised to consult a qualified tax professional to determine the appropriate tax treatment.
