Description

Projects for Peace is a global program that encourages young adults to develop innovative, community-centered, and scalable responses to the world’s most pressing issues. Along the way, these student leaders increase their knowledge, improve skills, and establish identities as peacebuilders and changemakers.

Projects for Peace awards $10,000 in grant funding for an original project designed to be implemented over the summer. Reed College has been a partner with Projects for Peace since 2008 and has awarded grants nearly every year. Projects for Peace is a global program housed in the Middlebury College Center for Community Engagement and was previously known as the Davis Projects for Peace.

Eligibility

  • Students must be enrolled at Reed College at the time of application and nomination (nominations are made in February)
  • U.S. or international students are eligible
  • Students may be of any age, any major, or any year in school: this includes seniors who intend to complete their projects in the summer after graduation.
  • Students may implement the project alone or with others.
  • The project may take place anywhere in the world, including in the U.S.

Selection Criteria

Proposals are evaluated for evidence of the following:
  • An innovative approach to the issue(s);
  • Appreciation for and sensitivity to the context, communities, and/or cultures where the project takes place;
  • Consideration of the dilemmas, challenges, or conflicts that may underlie the targeted issues or selected approaches;
  • Consideration of sustainability and/or scalability of the approach;
  • Critical self-awareness by the grantee.

Application Procedure

Interested students should review our internal application instructions. Applicants need to apply internally by the internal application deadline. Selected applicants will then be interviewed by a Reed College selection committee. The committee will select up to one nominee and one alternate who will then continue to work on their application materials until the deadline in early February. It is possible that both projects could be funded.
