Description

Each year Gates Cambridge offers around 80 full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Approximately two-thirds of these awards will be offered to PhD students, with approximately 25 awards available in the US round and 55 available in the International round.

Eligibility

Citizens from any country outside the United Kingdom are eligible to apply.

Eligible programs include:

  • PhD
  • MPhil/MLitt
  • One year postgraduate courses
  • There are some courses that are ineligible; see the Gates Cambridge website for details.

Selection Criteria

Selection is based on four criteria:

  • Academic excellence
  • Reasons for choice of course
  • A commitment to improving the lives of others
  • A capacity for leadership

Since this program aims to select approximately two-thirds of its cohort from PhD applications each year, those applying for taught Masters should pay special attention to explaining why this is the optimal course for them and how it is critical to their future academic or professional training plans.

Application Procedure

There is no separate application for the Gates Cambridge scholarship. Applicants must apply to University of Cambridge Postgraduate Admissions in the normal manner. In the funding section of the application, there will be a space to apply for the Gates Cambridge scholarship, and an additional recommender will be needed to address your suitability for the scholarship.
