Sexual Health, Advocacy & Relationship Education

Sexual Health, Advocacy & Relationship Education (SHARE) Advocates

SHARE Advocates and the Program Director are confidential, certified advocates with training through the Oregon Sexual Assault Task Force. Communications between survivor/victims and certified advocates hold legal privilege in the state of Oregon; the information shared between advocates and survivors is thus protected. This means that we are not legally allowed to share most information we receive without written permisson of the survivor through a time-limited and specific Release of Information. Exceptions are intent to harm others and notice of elder and child abuse.

If you would like to meet with an Advocate please contact us through the form linked here. Information provided in this form will be initially accessible to only the SHARE Program Director and Certified Confidential Advocate, L. Mattson. If you select to meet with a Peer Advocate, your contact information will be shared with the identified person for the purposes of coordinating support and arranging a time to meet. We aim to respond to all requests for advocacy within 48-72 hours.

SHARE Advocates are highly trained Reed students who provide support for people who have experienced any kind of interpersonal violence, including sexual harassment, relationship abuse, unwanted sexual contact, sexual assault, and stalking. Advocates can assist with identifying supports, safety planning, and connecting to resources on and off campus.

We are not counselors, but do provide emotional support and referral to counseling if requested. We are also not advisors, but will work to empower survivors to make informed choices from the range of options available to them. Some of our services include:

  • Emotional support for all survivors, regardless of when the incident happened.
  • Information about options and campus processes.
  • Referral to medical care, counseling, and other resources.
  • Reporting assistance (college and/or police).
  • Support for allies of survivors.
  • Accompaniment through investigative or judicial process.

In addition to individual meetings, SHARE's survivor peer support group provides community for survivors. For more information about our support group, please reach out through the advocates@reed.edu email.

Please note that SHARE is not an emergency service. For immediate confidential support, please contact Call to Safety at 1-888-235-5333 or 503-235-5333 (24/7 free and confidential support).
