The Swap Shop is run by student workers in the Sustainability office and is located in the Gray Campus Center (GCC) basement, near the Reed Community Pantry. All items in the Shop are free and were diverted from the landfill during student move-out.

Inside Commons 

Want to know more about dining at Reed? Commons 101 gives students the opportunity to come into Commons for a tour, learn how it all works, and ask questions. Bon Appétit leadership staff will be on hand to answer questions like: what we have to offer for vegans, how to check the balance of your board plan, how to order online, how to navigate Commons with food allergies, etc.

The college takes a multifaceted approach to addressing sexual misconduct. This session will provide a brief overview of the college's obligations under Title IX and Oregon law. The primary focus of the session will be on the varied supports, resources, and options that are available to students within the college's reporting and response procedures. This is a required session.

This session will provide an overview of Sexual Health, Advocacy, and Relationship Education (SHARE), Reed's student-facing program for sexual and relationship violence, promotion of healthy relationships, and direct support for survivors. We will talk about confidential options for support, our peer programs and events, and the resources we offer. We will learn together what it means to create and thrive in a culture of consent.

Come check out the Reed Community Pantry, which supplies food, hygiene products, school supplies, and other items at no cost to the Reed community! The Pantry is an inclusive and confidential space that is open year-round for any member of the Reed community to get their basic needs met. The Pantry is operated by SEEDS (Students for Education, Equity, & Direct Service) and is primarily run by student volunteers.

Come drop by and learn about how the Pantry works and/or how you can get involved! No appointment necessary; a tour of the space takes approximately 15 minutes.

Want to get paid to spend your summer engaged in research? Want to work with a faculty member on a collaborative project? Would flying to another state or country to an archive, exhibition, lab, or performance help you expand your thinking and practice? Reed has funding for such projects and opportunities and we want to share with you how to formulate proposals and apply for Reed research opportunities during the academic year and summer.

This session will discuss the various grant and summer research opportunities administered by the Undergraduate Research Committee (URC). Members of the URC will be on hand to answer questions. It's never too early to start making plans for next summer and beyond.

This session introduces new first-year, transfer, and foreign exchange students to Reed’s distinctive academic culture. Through a lively panel discussion featuring faculty, academic support staff, and a rising senior, participants will explore topics such as engaging meaningfully with coursework, interpreting academic feedback, navigating Reed’s conference-style classes, and accessing key academic resources for success.

The session will conclude with a live Q&A. New students: Bring your questions for the Q&A portion! This is a required session.

Learn about the diverse experiences and identities of the first-year class and begin to build an inclusive community with each other. Through interactive activities, we will learn to acknowledge our own preconceived assumptions about others, unpack our own experiences, and engage new perspectives and ideas. We will explore identities and cultures as it relates to the ways in which we engage with each other in our community, and practice skills for active listening as a tool for authentically engaging across differences.

Following the previous required session from the Office for Institutional Diversity (OID), OWLs will lead an interactive discussion on dialogue and reflect on conflict. After, you will learn about different ways to be involved on campus, whether that is joining a club like Reed's fire spinning group, Weapons of Mass Distraction (WMD), or the K-Pop Dance Club, or getting involved with the Senate or other leadership opportunities. There is something for everyone! This is a required session.

This event is exclusively for newly arriving transfer and foreign exchange students. Join us for a welcoming lunch where you can connect with fellow incoming students, faculty advisors, and campus staff. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about academics, explore support resources, and begin building your community at Reed.

Trillium Multipurpose Room

The practice of calligraphy at Reed dates back to the founding of the Graphic Arts Workshop in 1948. Now, seventy-five years later, the practice continues as students, staff, faculty, and alumni gather together each week to practice in a quiet and supportive environment where we work individually and collaboratively to make Reed a more beautiful place. All are welcome and all materials are provided.

Sports Center, Basketball Gym

This is only for students who have signed up for an outdoor supplemental experience. Check in for your outdoor supplemental experience during this session and learn about your next day's trips logistics, meet your student leaders and fellow participants. Expect to spend about 1/2 hour meeting and discussing information. Detailed meet-up times will be sent to you prior to our department on exact check-in times for each group.

Experience a piece of Reed tradition by joining the Noize Parade, led by Reed's Drum Korps. After the parade, stick around on the great lawn for further Noize Parade traditions. Please note that this tradition includes activities that may result in messy or stained clothes. Wear clothes you don't mind getting messy and/or stained, or stand further back from the actors to make sure you don't get splashed.

Winch/Capehart

SHARE Lounge is the chill, sub-free, sensory-aware space to be on Friday nights and during campus events! Lounge is located in Winch Common Room, staffed by two SHARE students (hoot hoot to the Night Owls!) and offers things like snacks, tea, and friendly conversation (or companionable silence). We'll have games available, too! To help keep the space safe, it's sub-free--but sober and non-sober people are welcome.

You are welcome to come and 1) hang out if you don’t want to be around substances, 2) take a breather and collect yourself if an event becomes activating or uncomfortable, 3) seek out SHARE resources if you have an experience that makes you feel unsafe at the event. Swing on by!
