Sustainability at Reed

Our team

Our team of sustainability interns is making change on campus! Each intern is leading a year-long, independent project addressing different aspects of sustainability: food production and land care, designing a living learning community, waste reduction, Swap Shop, event planning, and more.

Emily Howley

Hi, I’m Emily! I use they/them pronouns. I’m from Somerville, MA and I have a background in the Sunrise Movement and various fun organizing activities. This year, I will be overseeing the Swap Shop with Vic. I am a sophomore Biology major and looking forward to working with other Reed students on sustainability!

Anna Clauer

My name is Anna and I am a Sophomore Environmental Science-Chem major at Reed. I love Reed and want to make sure that we are practicing sustainability on campus as much as possible! I think it’s crucial to acknowledge that we are an integral part of the environment and that, through collaboration and intention in our interactions with the natural world, we can protect the earth we love so much. I will focusing on waste reduction efforts and will be overseeing the Recycling Center.

Rachel Thacker

Hi! My name is Rachel, I love crafting, cooking, and making music on my violin. When I am not doing any of those things, you'll probably find me watching sitcoms or out in nature. On the sustainability team, I help with waste reduction and manage the Recycling Center. I am passionate about decreasing waste and helping our campus be more green!

Anie Kotha

I’m a junior Biology major. I’m super excited to be working on sustainability this year as the new communications intern. I will be managing our Instagram accounts, creating fun and informative videos, and working with Rachel Willis to develop our communications strategy!

Carmen Simons

I am an environmental history senior from Brooklyn, NY. I study the history of cultural landscapes and traditional human-land-food relations in the PNW. In the sustainability department, I am one of the Garden and Orchard stewards, and I also tend to three camas prairie restoration sites on Reedʼs campus.

Alister Orozco

Hello! My name is Alister, and I am a junior Biology Major, Sociology Minor focused on trans healthcare and building community spaces. This year, I am working to develop Reed's Garden House into a Living-Learning community focused on Sustainable Living.

I'm a junior ES-History major with a Spanish minor. I am the Sustainability Events Intern, and I'm really looking forward to getting more people engaged with the awesome work we do!

I am a junior neuroscience major and one of the garden stewards this year! I'm so excited to be a part of the sustainability team and to contribute to the Reed community.

Lily Simon

I'm a senior Environmental Studies/Bio major. I'm super excited to continue working on the team and to make Reed a more sustainable place. Last year I was one of the Garden Stewards, but this year I'll be working on Reed's climate action plan! In my free time enjoy crafting, reading books, playing the fiddle, and spending time outdoors.
