Pre-Orientation Programming, Outdoor Odyssey Experiences, Move-in, and More
Dear student,
We hope you’re excited to join the Reed community this summer! This newsletter will share more about move-in, pre-Orientation programming, and Outdoor Odyssey Experiences.
Move-in
International students will move into their residence halls on Friday, August 21, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
You must sign up for your move-in time slot by July 1, but note that you can make changes to your selection until August 1. More details about the move-in process can be found on the residence life website.
Pre-Orientation Programming
In-person International Student Orientation (ISO) (August 21–24) is required for all F-1 and J-1 visa holders. ISO is hosted by International Student Services and orients international students to the United States and Reed. It is an essential part of the international student experience and is carefully designed to help launch you into a successful first semester. US citizens or permanent residents living abroad are also invited to register.
ISO connects each student with an InterConnect peer mentor who will guide students through their first semester. When registering for ISO, new students will have the option to sign up for the International Friendship Program (IFP), which connects new students with local hosts from the Portland area.
The International Student Orientation registration form opens today and is due by July 1. There is no registration fee for ISO; all activities and meals are free for participants.
Outdoor Odyssey Experiences
Outdoor Odyssey Experiences bring small groups of students to a variety of areas around Portland and to the rivers, oceans, and mountains of the Pacific Northwest. These trips are designed for a range of experience levels, so you can decide what’s right for you. These programs take place August 29–30, so they do not impact your move-in day.
These experiences are optional but recommended. Spots are limited, and space is reserved on a first come, first served basis. Preregistration is required. Applications open today and will close on July 1. While there is a $25 reservation fee for your trip, you will be refunded as long as you show up. If you fail to notify the Outdoor Odyssey staff after August 16 or no-show for your reserved spot, you will be charged a $25 cancellation fee.
If you have any questions, please email reedorientation@reed.edu. You’ll also find helpful links and reminders below. We look forward to meeting you in August!
Sincerely,
The Reed College Orientation Team
