Communications and Reminders from Reed

Online Orientation Module 2, Bookstore Deadlines, and Laptop Recommendations

Dear student,

We hope you are getting excited about joining us on campus! Before we get into new information, a quick reminder that placement exams are now open, and you will need to complete any exams you are interested in taking by July 17 at 5 p.m. PT.

Below you’ll find Module 2 of online Orientation and more information about bookstore deadlines, laptop recommendations, and move-in day.

Online Orientation, Module 2

Module 2 includes information about student support services like Disability and Accessibility Resources, the Health & Counseling Center, and more.

Please review the online Orientation modules soon after you receive them, as they contain important action items. If you haven’t already completed Module 1, be sure to do so.

You will receive the third and final module on July 26. All three online modules should be completed before August 24. Here are some tips for viewing the materials:

  • Access Module 2 of online Orientation.

  • Sign in with your Reed username and password.

  • It will take 1 to 1.5 hours to complete Module 2. You do not have to complete it in one sitting, as the platform will save your place.

  • Once you complete a section, you can return to that section to review the material. The materials will remain available as a reference for the remainder of the academic year.

  • A red “Next” button on the bottom right indicates when you can advance to the next slide.

Bookstore Deadlines and Humanities 110 Discount

Sunday, August 2, is the deadline to receive a 10% discount on your books for Humanities 110. This book bundle will be available for pickup in the bookstore beginning August 24. You can place your preorder on the bookstore website.

The bookstore also offers Student Charge Accounts that can be used to make purchases in-store and online. These are interest-free accounts with no fees. Using a Student Charge Account is a great way to have all your textbooks by the first day of class, even if you are waiting for additional financial aid to be processed.

If you have any questions, please contact the bookstore at bookstore@reed.edu or 503-777-7287.

Laptop Recommendations

The Reed IT department recommends that each student have their own laptop computer capable of running email, a modern web browser, Microsoft Office, and Zoom. Detailed recommendations for both Mac and Windows are available on the Reed IT getting equipment page. There are also various options for short-term equipment loans for students

You can purchase Apple products directly from Apple at the Apple education store for Reed College.

If you have any questions about laptop recommendations, please contact computer-purchase@reed.edu or 503-777-7253.

Move-in

Incoming students will move into their residence halls on Monday, August 24, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. PT, unless they are participating in a pre-Orientation program.

You must sign up for your move-in time slot by July 1, but you  can make changes to your arrival time up until August 1. More details about the move-in process can be found on the residence life website.

If you have any questions, please email reedorientation@reed.edu. We look forward to meeting you next month!

Sincerely,

The Reed College Orientation Team
