Orientation Week Schedule and Important Reminders

Dear student,

We are less than a week away from welcoming you to campus! You’ll find the in-person General Orientation week schedule below, along with other important reminders.

Orientation Week Schedule

You can access the Orientation week schedule in two places:

Helpful Tips for Orientation

  • Sessions that all students should attend are marked as REQUIRED in the event title.

  • Please read through all of the event listings, making note of the required sessions and any optional ones that you’re interested in.

  • The Downtown Portland Neighborhood Tour and the Local Target Shopping Trip require you to sign up in advance. Please note that spots are limited.

Academic Adviser Meeting

Academic advising appointments will take place on Thursday, August 27, between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. You will be assigned a 30-minute time slot to meet with your Academic Adviser.

You will receive an email on August 24 with more information about when and where to meet your adviser. During this meeting, you will talk about long-term academic plans and review your class schedule. If you do not receive your Academic Adviser’s name, location, and meeting time by August 26, please reach out to Suzy Renn, Associate Dean of the Faculty, at renns@reed.edu

Your Orientation & Wayfinding Leader (OWL)

During Orientation week, you will meet in small groups led by your OWL. OWLs are fellow students who will guide your cohort in discussions and activities about academic success skills, campus resources, and engaging with the Reed community.

  • You will receive an introductory email from your OWL before Orientation week.

  • During Orientation week, there are a few scheduled times when you will meet with your OWL and new student cohort. Your OWL will let you know where to meet for these sessions.

  • If you do not hear from your OWL by August 20, please email reedorientation@reed.edu.

Required Online Orientation Modules

  • If you haven’t completed the three online Orientation modules, please do so before August 24

  • You can access them here: Module 1Module 2, and Module 3.

  • Sign in with your Reed username and password.

Campus Culture & Prevention Trainings

  • In mid-July, you received an email with links to three Campus Culture & Prevention Trainings

  • These modules were designed to increase your ability to identify and challenge harmful and discriminatory behaviors.

  • Please complete these trainings before the start of Orientation

  • When you log in, please make sure your name appears at the top of the dashboard.

Introduction to Academic Departments

Curious about the academic offerings at Reed? Explore our introduction to academic departments page as you prepare for your adviser meeting during Orientation week.

Health Forms

The Reed College Health and Counseling Center (HCC) will be checking for required health forms when you arrive on campus. You should have uploaded the required forms to the health portal.

When you check in during move-in day, the HCC medical staff will work with you to complete any missing forms. Medical staff will also be administering required vaccines to students who are not up to date, including the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) series.

Required Emergency Contact Information

Students are required to provide Reed College with an emergency contact in IRIS. If you have not yet indicated your emergency contact, please do so prior to your move-in.

Housing Contract

As a reminder, all students must sign their housing contract before arriving on campus in order to obtain their housing key.

While first- and second-year students are guaranteed housing through our Residency Requirement & Guarantee, signing a contract is a requirement of living on campus and securing your housing assignment.

If you have not signed your contract, please email the Office of Residence Life to complete this step.
