Getting Started
Dear Student,
Welcome to Reed College!
You are beginning one of the most exciting and significant experiences of your life, and all of us at Reed want to make your transition to campus as smooth as possible.
Dates and Deadlines
You will find information on the new students website about how to prepare for your arrival. Here are some important dates and deadlines to keep in mind:
- June 1 and July 15 are the two major deadlines for most of Reed’s required forms––including advising forms, final transcripts, ID photos, and on-campus housing forms.
- In June and July, the Reed Orientation team will send you an email with links to online pre-Orientation modules, which should be completed before in-person Orientation in August.
- New student move-in is on Monday, August 26. You will request housing through the housing portal, which opens on May 1. You should sign up for on-campus housing by June 1.
- In-person Orientation begins on Monday, August 26. Check our website for more information.

Claim Your Computer Account
- You will need your Reed ID, which is X
- You will need the following activation code: X
- Reed uses a single sign-on system that lets you use one username and password to access many online services at Reed.
- Go to the Reed account setup page and follow the instructions to claim your account.
- You will be prompted to sign up for two-step authentication the first time you log in.
- Once you claim your computer account and set up your Reed email, use the same credentials to log in to IRIS. IRIS, Reed’s password-protected portal for community members, provides access to a variety of resources. In IRIS you can:
- Check your course schedule.
- Check your tuition billing account details.
- Complete many of your required forms.
- Update personal information like your pronouns and photo.
Your Reed Email
You will automatically receive a Reed email address once you have an active computer account. We encourage you to set up your email preferences to forward your Reed email to an email account that you frequently check.
Vaccination Requirements
All students are required to provide proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination (as defined by the CDC), in addition to a completed MMR series, prior to the start of their first term on campus. Read more about Reed’s vaccination requirements here.
Incoming students should upload proof of full vaccinations, as well as other required medical forms, to the Health and Counseling Center’s (HCC) Student Health Portal as soon as possible. Students who wish to request an exemption from the vaccination requirements or have other questions should email the HCC or call 503-777-7281.
Orientation Programming Accommodations
If you have life-threatening food allergies or require accommodations to participate fully in Orientation activities, please fill out the Orientation Accommodation Request Form as soon as possible. We require three weeks’ notice, if possible, to ensure accommodations are available.
