Here are some ideas to help you prepare for your big move and to make you feel at home when you get here.

Reed provides:
  • bed (extra long twin)
  • desk with chair
  • bureau
  • shelves
  • overhead light
  • window coverings
  • closet or wardrobe
  • ethernet connection
  • phone line

You should bring (or plan to buy through Reed’s bookstore):
  • bed linens (flat twin sheets are good, but extra long are best)
  • blankets
  • pillow(s)
  • towels
  • phone
  • hangers
  • desk lamp
  • alarm clock
  • toiletries (soap, etc.)
  • bathrobe or large towel for walk to shower
  • quarters for laundry
You might want:
  • school supplies: stapler, hole punch, tape, files, jump drive
  • throw rug
  • hand mirror
  • dry-erase board
  • laundry basket or large bag

Some people like:
  • stereo
  • storage trunk
  • can opener
  • hot pot or rice cooker
  • popcorn popper
  • small “dorm” fridge
  • floor lamp
  • surge suppressor
  • plate, silverware, mug
  • posters, decorations
  • juggling equipment (required for math majors)

Absolutely not:
  • microwave
  • amplifiers for instruments

Clothing:
  • Portland weather . . .
  • in summer, warm to hot weather—70s to 90s
  • most of the year, plenty of drizzle (think conducive to studying), moderate temperatures, and occasional snow
You really need:
  • your normal wardrobe
  • if not already included, waterproof shoes
You might want:
  • waterproof coat with hood
  • umbrella
  • hats, gloves, etc.
  • layers: sweaters, long underwear
  • shorts, t-shirts
  • slippers and a robe
  • bathing suit
  • something for winter and spring formals
Might be cool:
  • Halloween costumes
  • hiking or camping gear
If you forget:

If you forget something, there are a lot of shopping areas relatively close to Reed. Shopping shuttles to Fred Meyer and Target will be offered on Saturday of new Reedie orientation.
