Michigan Humanities Emerging Research Scholars (MICHHERS)
The University of Michigan Linguistics Department invites you to apply to the Humanities Emerging Research Scholars (MICHHERS) program www.rackham.umich.edu/michhers.
This all expenses paid program will bring talented undergraduate and MA students to Ann Arbor for a 2‐week workshop to help you prepare to apply to a PhD in Linguistics, and to give you an overview of the opportunities and resources available for students at the University of Michigan, including Linguistics. You will meet with faculty and PhD students to talk about research in linguistics, and will have the opportunity to work on your own research project under the guidance of U‐M Linguistics faculty. The event will also include a graduate application workshop and gatherings with faculty and current graduate students from Linguistics and other disciplines.
The application deadline is Friday, February 7, 2020. See link for application materials that you should submit, including statements and two letters recommendations. Send this flyer right away to faculty you think could recommend you, so that they already know you are interested in applying.
Selected applicants will receive a $1,000 stipend for their participation in the program. Round trip travel, lodging, and on‐campus meals will also be paid by MICHHERS.

This summer program will take place from June 7 to June 20, 2020. We seek rising seniors, bachelor’s degree holders, and M.A. students, particularly those from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in graduate education who are planning to pursue a Ph.D. in Linguistics. Application open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents or non‐U.S. citizens with DACA.
