Residence Life at Reed

Division of Student Life

End of Semester Housing & Winter Housing

To minimize potential spread of the coronavirus during cold and flu season, housing will be operating at reduced density, as described in the college’s COVID-19 plan.  End of semester housing (November 23 - December 18) and winter housing (December 19 - January 15) is available pending application approval for students who demonstrate a compelling need to remain at Reed during these respective time frames.

Priority will be given to students experiencing financial and/or housing insecurity and students who call another country home.

Students will be required to sign another housing contract(s) and covid addendum. While these are still being finalized, students should expect these following points to be included:

  • I understand that I may not enter any other Reed College housing building, e.g. residence hall, houses, or apartments, other than where I reside.
  • I understand that the guest policy outlined in the Housing Contract is suspended until further notice. I understand that only students who live in my Reed College housing building, e.g. residence hall, are permitted to be in the building. I agree that I will not have visitors or guests in my residence hall or any other Reed College housing.
  • I understand and agree that I must maintain appropriate physical distancing when passing employees of the College who are providing direct service to my residential building. This includes custodians, maintenance, Residence Life, Community Safety, Computing, and emergency services.
  • I understand and agree that I must comply with all posted signage regarding social distancing, face coverings, common room and kitchen capacity, and other COVID-19 directives while residing in Reed College housing.
  • I understand and agree that I am expected to remain on campus and not leave for the duration of the semester with the exception of essential travel and activities such as medical appointments, family emergencies, or grocery shopping if I am not on a Board plan.

Application Process

Students must complete an application to be considered for remainder of the semester housing and winter housing. A student may just apply to stay for just end of semester housing or both end of semester and winter housing. A student may not apply to only winter housing. For simplicity sake, there is only one application.

Applications will be available through the Housing Portal starting on Monday, October 5 and will be accepted on a rolling basis through Tuesday, November 10.

Applications will be reviewed by a staff committee chaired by Julie Maxfield (Associate Dean of Students for Academic Life).
