The University of Cape Town

Cape Town, South Africa

Established as South African College in 1829, UCT is internationally recognized as the top-ranked African research university. The UCT campus has beautiful grounds and attractive facilities which include a range of commercial, medical, recreational, and sporting facilities.

Reed students can gain a comprehensive understanding of social relations in South Africa while taking regular courses at the University of Cape Town (UCT) through a program presented in collaboration with the Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE). Students live, interact, and study with African students in a society in transition. Opportunities offered include homestays, volunteering, and immersion in local society.

Cost to attend:

Reed College charges the same tuition fees for a semester or year off-campus as for a semester or year spent on campus, plus the off-campus program's actual room and board fees. Students are encouraged to choose programs based on their academic, rather than financial needs, to reflect Reed College's belief that all students regardless of financial circumstances should have the opportunity to study abroad.

Financial aid continues for eligible students during their participation in an off-campus program. Students should discuss how other outside aid may impact their existing aid package with the Financial Aid Office. More details are available here.
