As associate dean of global education and director of international programs, Alberto del Río Malo leads the college’s domestic and overseas study and exchange programs in 35+ countries for enrolled Reed students. He also oversees the International Faculty Exchange Program and the Language Scholar Program, which brings eight international scholars to Reed through exchange relationships with partner universities and program affiliations worldwide.

Alberto has over two decards of extensive experience working and teaching in the fields of international higher education and intercultural exchange, as well as designing and implementing study abroad programs, to help the Reed community develop global educational opportunities.

Alberto holds a PhD in romance languages and literatures, a diploma de estudios avanzados (DEA) in literary theory and comparative literature, and a licenciatura in Hispanic philology from the Universitat de Barcelona. He has been ​a visiting professor of Spanish language and literature at Knox College in Galesburg, IL, and ​a professor of literary theory and comparative literature at the Universitat de Barcelona. He is a member of the advisory board and former president of APUNE (Association of American Study Abroad Programs in Spain) and on the academic advisory board of CUPA-Paris (The Center for University Programs Abroad).

Student Study Abroad Advisers

If you're early in the process, international program office (IPO) has student study abroad advisers who can help guide the way. You can make an appointment or drop by their office in Eliot 101B. Someone is typically available most weekdays, but if you miss them, their office hours are posted on the office door.

Meet with the International Programs Director

Once you have an idea of the program(s) you are interested in, fill out the Off-Campus Study Program Interest Form and schedule a meeting with Alberto in Eliot 422. He can help you hone your choices and navigate all of the logistics of studying abroad.
