School for Field Studies - Australia

Multiple Locations, Australia

The School for Field Studies in Australia has a focus on Tropical Rainforest Studies. Although this is particularly suited to students interested in Biology and Environmental Studies, SFS programs offer ample resources and opportunities for students in all disciplines. The SFS center for Rainforest Studies is at the edge of the Atherton Tablelands, surrounded by World Heritage forests, farmland, and tropical hills. Students will look at various policies, using field research, collaboration with local landholders and environmental organizations, and a student directed project to explore possibilities for this area of the country. SFS gives Reed students an interdisciplinary approach to these topics, overlapping with questions about public policy, economic analysis of biological resource issues, and "Direct Research" projects where students carry out independent field work. For students of all disciplines, these programs are also an exceptional chance to explore field-based learning rooted in local communities and cultures.
