Office for Institutional Diversity

Dear Staff & Faculty,

This is a gentle reminder that the fall Jewish holiday season occurs in September and October this year. The following observations beginning at sundown on the first date marked and ending at sundown on the second date:

Rosh Hashanah. Friday, September 15 - Sunday, September 17
Yom Kippur. Sunday, September 24 - Monday, September 25
First two days of Sukkot. Friday, September 29 - Sunday, October 1
Shemini Atzeret/Simchat Torah. Friday, October 6 - Sunday, October 8
These holidays largely fall on weekends in 2023, and each holiday is marked with specific ceremonies. Each also comes with restrictions for those who observe these holidays, including avoiding use of any electricity or electronic devices (such as computers, cell phones, email, lights, and cars). Other forbidden actions include writing, erasing, and lighting a flame. These restrictions could impact students’ ability to complete assignments, particularly those due on Mondays.
As a community, we ask for your continued support for our students, faculty, and staff who are observing these faith traditions.

In community,

Phyllis Esposito, VP & Dean for Institutional Diversity

Kathy Oleson, Dean of the Faculty
