New HA Application Information

 

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

We urge you to read the following information carefully and attend an informational session before the submission of your application.

If you plan to be away during spring semester (e.g. study abroad), please make sure to speak with your RD before winter break.

Application Checklist:

The following must be submitted as one complete packet to the Residence Life Office located in 28 West no later than noon on Tuesday, February 5th, 2013Email applications are only accepted if you are currently abroad or away from Reed. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Application Process

PHASE ONE: WRITTEN APPLICATION

  • We encourage you to attend an informational tabling session in Commons. RDs and HAs will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the position or application process.

If you cannot attend one of these sessions but want further information, please contact our office to meet individually with a Residence Life staff member. Tabling sessions will take place in Commons on the following dates:

  • Monday, January 28, 11:30am - 1:30pm
  • Tuesday, January 29, 11:30am - 1:30pm
  • Wednesday, January 30, 5:30pm - 6:30pm
  • Thursday, January 31, 5:30pm - 6:30pm
  • Friday, February 1, 11:30am - 1:30pm
  • Prepare your application materials 
    • Resume
    • Cover letter
    • HA Evaluation (download .doc)
      • Send the evaluation form to your current HA (if you are currently off-campus, you should submit a recommendation from the HA whom you know best).  HA evaluations must be returned to you and submitted together with your other application materials by the application deadline.
      • Find tips for selecting an evaluator here.
    • Faculty/Staff Evaluation (download .doc)
      • Ask a faculty or staff member who knows you and your skillset well to submit a letter of recommendation for you.  Supply them with the evaluation form.  Faculty/Staff evaluations must be returned to you and submitted together with your other application materials by the application deadline.

  • Consider attending a resume critique workshop or setting up an appointement with Career Services for resume writing tips and critique.
    • Resume Critique Workshop: Thursday, January 31 at 4:30pm, Eliot 126.
  • Submit your application materials to the Residence Life Office in 28 West by Tuesday, February 5th at noon. Late applications will not be accepted!

 

PHASE TWO: INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEW

  • Sign up for an individual interview

You will receive an e-mail by the end of the day on Friday, February 8 indicating whether your application has continued on to Phase Two. If your application has continued on, you will need to sign up for an individual interview time in the Residence Life Office.  Sign ups for interviews will happen on February 11, 12, or 13. Failure to sign up for an interview slot by Wednesday, February 13 at 5:00pm will forfeit your application.

Individual interviews will take place between Thursday, February 21st and Saturday, February 23rd and will last approximately 45 minutes.

  • Consider attending an Interview Workshop hosted by Career Services to prepare for your interview
    • Interview Workshop: Wednesday, February 13 at 4:30pm in GCC-D
    • Interview Workshop: Tuesday, February 19 at 4:30pm in GCC-D

 

PHASE THREE: GROUP INTERVIEW

  • Attend the Group Interview 

You will receive an email by the end of the day on Thursday, February 28 indicating whether your application has continued on to Phase Three. If it has continued, you will be required to attend a Group Interview Sunday, March 10 between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm. You will be assigned an interview time that lasts one hour. You must be available for this interview in order to continue in the HA selection process.

  • Check your email!  Selection notification will happen the week of March 18th.
