Get Started

What is Cascade?

Cascade is a content management system (CMS) that allows you to create, edit, and publish web pages. It runs in your web browser, so there's nothing to download or install on your computer. Here's how to get started.

Visit reed.cascadecms.com and enter your Reed credentials (same as for email). You can access Cascade wherever you have an internet connection. You can use a smartphone or tablet, but a computer will be easiest.

Explore Your Dashboard

The first thing you'll see after logging in is your Dashboard. Return to it any time by clicking the Cascade logo at the top left of the screen.

Helpful dashboard items:

My Content

The Recent tab lists the most recent items you have viewed or edited in Cascade. This is handy for quickly returning to those items without having to use the Sites menu or Asset Tree (see below). The Starred tab lists sites, folders, pages, and files that you have starred. You can add items to this list by clicking the star icon in the upper right corner of the screen when you are viewing that item.

My Sites

This lists the Sites you have accessed most recently and may be a little quicker to use than the Sites menu (see below), which always lists all the Sites you can access.

Notifications

Every time you publish something, Cascade creates a report for you about what was published and whether there were any problems. These reports are listed here. Keep an eye out for any reports that end with something like "(2 issue(s))." That usually means there are broken links in the things you published. Click the title to get more details.

Use the Sites Menu

The Sites dropdown menu is at the top left of the screen next to the Cascade logo. If you have access to multiple Sites, you can switch between them here.

Organize Asset Files

A website is made up folders and files. When inside a site, the asset tree on the left displays all the folders, pages, and files you can edit. Asset trees use a tree-like structure where assets are organized into levels, with parent assets at the top and child assets (sub-folders or pages) branching out from them.

You will see this structure replicated in the breadcrumbs at the top of each page (Strategic Communications & Marketing is the "parent" folder of "projects & requests forms."):

Home / College Offices / Strategic Communications & Marketing / Projects & Request Forms

In the asset tree, click a folder name to show what's inside. Click on a page name and you are ready to learn about editing
