Buenos Aires Universities Program (BAUP)

Buenos Aires, Argentina

At this unique exchange program in Buenos Aires, a vibrant, cosmopolitan city of 15 million inhabitants, Reed students can choose to study at two major universities in the city:Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT) and Universidad de San Andrés (UdeSA). Courses are offered in a wide variety of disciplines covering almost all majors at Reed and can be taken in both English and Spanish. BAUP allows students significant flexibility in their studies and a high level of independence.

The Universidad Torcuato di Tella hosts students from across the world to study in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires. Founded in 1991, the university is particularly well-known for its offerings in the social sciences; other notable departments include art, architecture, and international studies.

UTDT welcomes exchange students who are eager to learn in a friendly yet rigorous academic environment. A broad offering of weekly cultural and sports activities provides students with unparalleled opportunities for gaining an in-depth understanding of the local culture and developing long-lasting friendships and a rich network of professional connections.

Track 1 (Spanish Immersion Program): Students take a full course load taught in Spanish.
Track 2 (English Program): Students take direct-enrolment courses taught in English, as well as a mandatory Spanish language course.

Questions about the program can be directed to them at international@utdt.edu.

For direct exchange programs such as this one, students must be nominated by the IPO Director in order to apply. If interested, please make an appointment with the IPO Director to discuss. Upon nomination from the IPO, you must submit the application for consideration.

Founded in 1989 by the Scottish community in Argentina and inspired by the pedagogical system of liberal arts colleges, the UdeSA is a privately owned, not-for-profit institution offering academic programs in various fields.

Students who have completed SPAN 212 can also create their own academic focus by mixing and matching courses at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) and the Universidad del Salvador (USAL), participating in the Institute for Study Abroad-Butler University (IFSA) program. Students with little knowledge of the Spanish language are welcome to participate in the IES Abroad Society & Culture Program. In this program, students combine IES courses with direct enrollment courses at local universities, which are taught in English.

Immigration

Visa Deadlines and Requirements:

Government provision #2023-96270648 of the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (National Migrations Department) establishes that those entering the country for educational purposes for periods longer than two days must obtain an Electronic Entry Permit (TIE 24H) or visa before arriving in Argentina. UTDT will not issue transcripts to those students who do not upload proof of their TIE24H or visa to the corresponding platform by the stipulated date.

The entry permit (TIE 24H) can only be requested by citizens of countries that do not require a tourist visa to enter Argentina (see list here.)

Those coming from countries that require a visa will have to apply for the -365 or +365 visa, depending on the duration of their studies at UTDT.

Both the TIE 24H (see the processing instructions at the bottom of this page) and the visa can be processed as of 90 days before the start of the study period at UTDT. Since the process can take several months, it is important to start the application at least two months before arrival in Argentina, or as soon as the acceptance letter is received. In the acceptance package, UTDT will provide to accepted students all necessary information for requesting the TIE 24H or the visa.

Financial

Cost to attend:

Reed College charges the same tuition fees for a semester or year off-campus as for a semester or year spent on campus, plus the program's actual room and board fees. Reed College encourages students to choose programs based on their academic rather than financial needs to reflect Reed's belief that all students, regardless of financial circumstances, should have the opportunity to study abroad.

Financial aid continues for eligible students during the off-campus program. Students should discuss with the Financial Aid Office how other outside aid may impact their existing aid package. Check out more details directly on the Reed College Financial Aid page.
