Reed exchange students can choose courses in 2 different departments, with a maximum of 36 ECTS per semester. They are also paired up with local Rennes 2 students as part of a Buddy System, which allows them to get tips and useful information from students who already have first-hand knowledge of the university, campus services, and city.
The Welcome Week is designed to familiarize students with their new university environment and teach them the basics, such as registering for classes, getting a student card, or opening a French bank account. The Student Health Centre (Service santé des étudiant·e·s- SSE) accompanies students through their education, providing preventative and medical services and offering assistance to students with disabilities.

Students must be nominated by the IPO director. Reed students with at least 2 years of college-level German language can participate in a direct exchange that enables students from both institutions to exchange places for a semester or full year. Reed participants are provided with general orientation guidance as well as academic advising; they can enroll in courses taught in German at either the Freie or Humboldt Uni alongside regular students at the universities. Housing is provided in student residences throughout the city.

Reed students without prior German language experience or less than 2 years of college-level German language are welcome to study in this program. After a placement test, students take a German language course at their level, as well as 4 courses taught in English or German that cover a variety of subjects. Unlike the other options in Germany, this program runs on the traditional U.S. semester calendar thus making it possible for students to study either fall or spring semester.
Reed students with at least 2 years of college-level German can enroll in a broad range of German university courses with the support of a structured program. This program was founded in 1995 with the goal of helping students improve their German and focus on related areas of study. As such, students begin with a 6 week German Discourse and Culture course followed by direct enrollment in courses at the Freie in a broad range of subject areas of their choice.

Classes at ICLP emphasize oral practice, so students must spend adequate time (no less than 1.5 hours daily for each class they take) preparing and reviewing each lesson. Prior to enrolling at ICLP, students are recommended to have at least two years of language training in Chinese or the equivalence thereof at an intensive program (with overall Chinese language ability at or above the Intermediate-Mid level, TOCFL B1, CEFR B1, or HSK3).
Beginner students are welcome to apply for our Academic Year Program starting from the Fall Quarter. Those who wish to start from any other quarter are accepted once there are enough applicants to form a beginner's class.
Students in the academic year program are encouraged to attend three consecutive quarters, although ICLP also accepts applications for one or two quarters. From their second semester onward, students may tailor their coursework to their own interests. Splitting the year into three quarters provides students with the maximum opportunity to explore our diverse course options.
The program consists of three 10- or 11-week quarters and an optional summer term of nine weeks. Classes are held daily at the same time slots from Monday to Friday. One class is 50 minutes.

Our curriculum and research focus on how changes in land use and resource availability in the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem can be managed to foster the well-being of local communities while safeguarding and promoting biodiversity conservation. Students learn about the socioeconomic, policy, and environmental drivers and implications of demographic change and land reform for wildlife conservation and rural development. Students hear lectures by park wardens, wildlife veterinarians, and field researchers. They also interview Maasai community members about challenges they face by the rapid loss of natural resources.

Although they are particularly suited to students interested in Biology and Environmental Studies, all SFS programs offer ample resources and opportunities for students in all disciplines. Thanks to partnerships with Sarah Lawrence and Wadham College, Reed can provide its students the opportunity to spend year at Oxford University studying under leading academics through its renowned tutorial system. This unique pedagogical approach allows students to pursue personal academic interests, working one-on-one with expert professors. The Sarah Lawrence program is limited to 30 students annually, and grants its accepted applicants direct matriculation into Oxford as registered visiting students. Students will take two tutorial courses in addition to Sarah Lawrence's Core Programme, which connects visiting students with lectures, cultural events, and field trips around England.
