The Center for Teaching and Learning

Student Teaching Consultant Collaborative Fellowship

This fellowship is designed to expand the scholarly opportunities epitomized by the Reed College Student Teaching Consultant program.  Supporting the intellectual and scholarly growth, and long-term professional development of students are key aims of the STC program and this fellowship. The Summer STC Collaborative Fellowship supports collaboration between students and faculty or staff  on projects or research focused on improving pedagogical practices or resources on campus, and/or the long-term, pedagogy-related development of the student and faculty.

Projects and/or research supported by this program will:

  • Contribute to the intellectual and scholarly growth, and long term professional development of the student-fellow.
  • Be closely supervised by a faculty or staff member.
  • Align with the mission of the CTL.

Preference will be given to projects that grow out of regular STC partnerships.

Student fellows will receive stipends of $3000 for the summer. Faculty supervisors will receive stipends of $1500 for the period.

Students: If you are interested in serving as a Summer STC Fellow, you must find a faculty or staff sponsor. Current and former STCers, your faculty partners are excellent options. In fact, the best projects are likely to grow out of those collaborations. However, if they are not available (or you have not served as an STCer), you are encouraged to contact the DoCTL for advice. Before contacting either, you should prepare a draft, one-page proposal that includes the elements described below. You will finalize the draft in collaboration with your faculty sponsor.

Faculty: If you are interested in supervising a summer fellowship, please submit a proposal directly to the DoCTL.

Proposals should include the following and be limited to one-page:

  • A description of the research or project to be undertaken by the student intern
  • The anticipated product of the project
  • A budget for the project, including: an estimate of project-related expenses and/or supplies of up to $200, to be included in the total above. Please specify the nature of the expense(s)

For record purposes, fellows will submit a summary (or copy) of the final product when the collaboration is complete.

Please submit proposals to the DoCTL by Wednesday, April 14, 2021 for full consideration. Notification of funding will be sent by April 19, 2021.
