COVID-19 Prevention & Response Plan

Communications

October 23, 2020

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

I write to you with our weekly update from the COVID-19 Risk Assessment Group.

This week, we are pleased to announce the rollout of the Reed COVID-19 Dashboard. This online tool serves to share up-to-date information on the COVID-19 Indicators for Assessment, which are used to inform decisions about college operations. This dashboard will be updated as new information becomes available, at a minimum once weekly on Friday. With this new resource now available, we will adjust the content and purpose of our weekly communications to focus on announcements, changes, and other relevant updates.

Since our last update, we have identified one new COVID-19 case at Reed. The case was placed in isolation and a small number of potentially exposed individuals were contacted and placed on home quarantine promptly after the college's notification of the positive test result. Reed continues to report all associated COVID-19 cases online, now found in the "Total Cases" section of the dashboard. For more information, please see our October 21 communication on COVID-19 Investigations at Reed.

Other updates and reminders:

  • Routine COVID prevention activities are ongoing throughout Reed and are as important as ever, especially considering the continued climb in COVID activity across the country. We appreciate your continued participation in surveillance testing, the weekly risk assessment survey, and all other essential response measures on and off campus.
  • The official release of the Spring 2021 academic calendar and related operational updates will be made next Wednesday, October 28. More information can be found in our October 13 announcement.
  • With the closure of residence halls and end of in-person classes on November 22, student access to campus will be restricted after this time. Students looking to retain campus access for work or academic purposes should discuss with the appropriate faculty member or supervisor, who can endorse and submit this request. To ensure a prompt response, please make all access requests by Thursday, October 29. For more information, see our related communication on Campus Access over Winter Break.

If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to the COVID-19 Risk Assessment Group at coronavirusquestions@reed.edu.

Sincerely,

Madison Riethman, MPH, CPH
