March 16, 2020
Dear Reed community members,
It’s with a heavy heart that we must temporarily close down the Reed Sports Center to all students, staff, faculty, and community members. This change will go into effect at noon on Wednesday, March 18.
We recognize how important the sports center is to many in our community. Before making this decision, we carefully evaluated local and state health officials’ recommendations, and it has become clear that we can no longer safely and responsibly operate the facility at this time.
It is our intention to reopen as soon as we can safely and responsibly do so in conjunction with relevant guidelines.
In the meantime, if you intend to use the sports center between now and this Wednesday, please take extra precautions to thoroughly clean and disinfect any equipment and surfaces you use and touch. Staff members are diligently cleaning the facility, but people must take on this responsibility themselves as well for the health and safety of all community members.
Please collect all belongings you have stored in the sports center on Tuesday, March 17, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and Wednesday, March 18, between 8 a.m. and noon. Any items left in the facility will be donated or disposed of so we can properly clean the entire facility. If you cannot make it in to get your things, please reach out and we will do our best to assist you.
The college will also close the ski cabin in Government Camp starting Monday, March 16.
We will keep our community informed as the situation develops and will alert you as to when our facilities might reopen.
We wish you all the best possible physical and mental health during this challenging time.
