COVID-19 Prevention & Response Plan

Communications

July 9, 2021

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

I write to you with our weekly update from the COVID-19 Risk Assessment Group (CRAG). We have highlighted essential points in yellow.

New Cases at Reed

Since our last update, we have identified one new confirmed COVID-19 cases at Reed. The case was placed in isolation promptly after the positive test result was received. A small number of potentially exposed individuals were notified by the college but not required to quarantine, per current CDC guidelines. We continue to report all associated COVID-19 cases online, found in the "Total Cases" section of the dashboard.

Surveillance testing next week

Next week, surveillance testing will take place on Monday, July 12 from 8 AM to 11 AM, and Thursday, July 15 from 12 PM to 2 PM in the Student Union. The sign up invitation for these dates will be sent via email today.

At this time, all community members who have not submitted vaccination records to HR (faculty/staff) or the HCC (students) are required to test once during each week in which they will be on campus. Individuals do not need to test during weeks they are not coming to campus, or if they have submitted records of full COVID-19 vaccination to the appropriate office. For more information about the Reed COVID-19 surveillance testing program, please visit our website here.

Reed Transportation Guidelines

Following CDC guidance requiring masks on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation, the college requires face coverings while traveling in Reed provided group transportation. Please visit the Risk Management webpage for additional Reed bus, van, and transportation use protocols.

COVID-19 Vaccine

To inform the development of a safe and healthy campus, Reed asks all community members to share their COVID vaccination records with the HCC (students) or HR (staff and faculty). All students who have COVID-19 vaccination records reflecting a completed vaccination series uploaded to the HCC portal on or before July 15, 2021, at midnight PDT will be entered in a Reed lottery drawing for two $200 airline gift cards and twenty four $25 bookstore gift certificates!

Currently, 95% of Reed staff and faculty have been verified as fully vaccinated by the Reed Human Resources team, along with 100% of Bon Appetit staff members.

93% of students who are currently living on or accessing campus have reported full vaccination against COVID-19 to the HCC. Preliminarily, 54% of all potential students (registered or eligible to register for the fall 2021 semester) have submitted records of full vaccination to the HCC. Please note that these data are rapidly evolving, as the total number of students continues to change and the window for on-time vaccination reporting is still open. We will continue to share updated data on vaccination rates in our weekly updates.

If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to the COVID-19 Risk Assessment Group at coronavirusquestions@reed.edu.

Sincerely,

Madison Riethman, MPH, CPH
