Dear Reed students, faculty, and staff,
We have heard reports that important COVID-19 communications from the college are getting sorted into recipients' Gmail promotion tab. This can happen when the college uses third-party communications systems like Mailchimp, Qualtrics, and SignUpGenius to send emails.
Here are some of the reasons the college chooses to use third-party communications systems to send emails to the community:
- Mass communications can be sent to targeted groups of people, such as those who need to sign up for COVID-19 testing or those who have signed up for COVID-19 testing.
- The email can be designed in an easy-to-read format, similar to Reed Campus News.
- Unique survey links can be included.
One disadvantage of sending email through a third-party software is that it can sometimes end up in your promotions or spam folder.
ACTION: To ensure Reed College emails land in your priority tab, we suggest the following steps:
- Regularly search your promotions and spam tabs for emails from Reed. If you use Gmail, drag and drop emails in your promotions or spam tab into your primary tab in your inbox. Consider disabling Gmail's "Inbox categories" altogether, so all inbound email is delivered to the same tab.
- Add email addresses that Reed frequently uses for mass emails to your address book. Frequently used email addresses for mass emails include the following:
Below are some examples of important emails.
