Living in a residence hall at Reed gives you a chance to become immersed in campus life. Our residences are more than just places to sleep or hang your clothes; they’re places to learn about yourself and others, to meet a variety of people from all over the country and world, and to be exposed to different lifestyles, ideas, and points of view. Student life in all residence halls is guided by the Honor Principle, which promotes self- governance and encourages students to be respectful of one another and of all community members.
The Department of Residence Life facilitates a residential experience in which students are supported in their academic pursuits, personal growth, and participation in an interdependent community.
To achieve this we:
- provide secure, comfortable, and inclusive spaces for living and learning where…
- well-trained professional and paraprofessional staff reside and...
- encourage individual growth and academic success through meaningful programs and relationship building.
We envision a vibrant, safe, inclusive living environment where each student is invested in their academic and personal success and has a sense of pride in Reed.
The Department of Residence Life is committed to the following interconnected values, which are guided by the Honor Principle:
Academic Excellence: Active engagement in the curriculum both inside and outside of the classroom.
Community: Accountability to and participation in a diverse communal living environment that fosters interdependence, positive and meaningful relationships, and a sense of belonging at Reed.
Personal Development: Positive development of key life skills gained through formative experiences.
Respect: Interactions guided by civility, integrity, inclusivity, open dialogue, and the resolution of differences through restorative practices.
Wellness: Holistic care for an individual’s well-being, including a strong support network and access to campus resources.
Residence Life's learning outcomes are derived from the department values.

Check out the Res Life Blog! The blog is written by current Reedies who work for the Res Life department. They include the Housing Advisors, who work in the residence halls to program events and provide on-campus resources, and the front desk student workers. The blog platform allows the Residence Life department to show the student perspective on living in the residence halls. All opinions expressed on the blog are representative only of their specific authors and do not necessarily reflect the beliefs of the office of Residence Life or Reed College as a whole.
