RELIGION THEORY CONFERENCE TO BE HELD AT REED
Reed College is hosting a conference on "Theorizing Religion" on Sunday, February 24, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the biology auditorium (Biology 119). Four professors from three Canadian universities will be presenting papers on various aspects of religion, including biblical study, religious historiography, and religion in South America. The conference is free and open to the public. William Arnal, from the University of Manitoba, will be reading "Biblical Studies and Theories of Religion." Johannes Wolfart, also from the University of Manitoba, will be reading "Whose History of Religion? Reflections on the Historiography of a Young Discipline." Darlene Juschka, from the University of Regina, will present "The Shamans Phallus: Power, Gender and the Comparative Study of Religion in a South American Context." Willi Braun, from the University of Alberta, will present "Religion and the Mischief of Curiosity (or Why Pandora is My Hero)." The conference is sponsored by Reeds religion department.
