REED COLLEGE SPRING CONCERT OF JOY AND SORROW

The Reed College chamber orchestra, chorus, and Collegium Musicum will present "Music of Joy and Sorrow" on Sunday, April 22, at 8 p.m. in Reed's Kaul Auditorium. The spring concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Reed events line at 503/777-7755.

The chamber orchestra, conducted by David Schiff, will play Sibelius's Valse Triste and two movements of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor with soloist Andrew Wray ‘03. The orchestra will join the Reed chorus for the Requiem Mass of Gabriel Fauré. The Collegium Musicum, directed by Virginia Hancock, will sing settings of texts of joy and sorrow in French, German, Italian, and English by composers primarily from the Renaissance and early Baroque periods, including Gibbons, Josquin, Monteverdi, and Schütz.
