ACTORS FROM THE LONDON STAGE PERFORM SHAKESPEARE AT REED
Reed College and the University of Notre Dame present Actors from the London Stage, a program that brings talented English actors to the U.S. The actors will perform William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale and two one-person plays at Reed College. For more information, call the Reed events hotline at 503/777-7755.
- Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale will be performed on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3, at 8 p.m. in Reed’s Kaul Auditorium. Tickets will cost $1 for members of the Reed community, $5 for students and seniors, and $10 for general admission. Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 7 p.m. on the evening of each performance.
- Doyne Byrd will perform Earl of Rochester on Tuesday, February 27, at 8 p.m. in the Reed College theatre. Tickets will cost $1 for Reed community members, $3 for students and seniors, and $5 for general admission.
- Alison Skilbeck will perform Chosen Women: Poems By and About Women on Thursday, March 1, at 8 p.m. in the Reed College theatre. This performance is this year’s divisional speaker for the division of the arts and will be free and open to the public.
Five veterans of London’s leading theatres–Doyne Byrd, Mairead Carty, Andrew Readman, Alison Skilbeck, and Nicholas Tigg–will perform The Winter’s Tale, one of Shakespeare’s most unique and subtle romances. Grief and desolation turn to romance and joy in this story of jealous King Leontes and his daughter, Perdita. The actors will use gesture, body movement, and voice modulation instead of elaborate costumes and sets to convey all the action and character shifts of this memorable classic. These appearances are all part of an educational program developed by Homer Swander and Actors from the London Stage.
