Tenure-Track Assistant Professorship in Mathematics
The Reed College Mathematics Department invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in mathematics, to begin in Fall 2016. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mathematics with specialization in analysis or applied mathematics, broadly construed, and be committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship. Reed is a distinguished liberal arts college with 1400 students that offers a demanding academic program to bright and dedicated undergraduates. The successful candidate is expected to teach the equivalent of five semester courses per year and to supervise senior theses (required of all students).

The cover letter should address how the applicant's teaching and scholarship are suited to the liberal arts college environment. The department consists of seven mathematicians, one statistician, and two computer scientists. Check out Courses and Theses for an idea of what we do. Each professor supervises between one and three theses per year. Some theses are expository, some tread new ground, and a few get published. Each year we have a few interdisciplinary mathematics-physics and mathematics-economics theses. Some ad hoc interdisciplinary theses in recent years have been in mathematics-philosophy, mathematics-biology, and mathematics-biology-chemistry. We run a weekly colloquium (check out Colloquia).
