The 2018–19 Reed College Presidential Search process, which began in June 2018, is an important opportunity to think deeply about the goals and direction of the college in the next decade.

On June 6, 2018, Roger M. Perlmutter, Chair of Reed College's Board of Trustees, announced the presidential search committee. The committee is chaired by Trustee Alex Martinez ’73, a retired Justice of the Colorado State Supreme Court, and comprises faculty, staff, students, and trustees (five of whom are alumni). During the search process, Hugh Porter will serve as acting president. He will continue to move college initiatives forward following the tenure of John Kroger, which coincided with a period of rapid advancement for Reed

Under Alex Martinez's direction, the search committee will develop a detailed schedule for their work, which over time will involve the selection of search consultants, solicitations of interest from potential candidates, and, ultimately, the selection of a short list of candidates based upon a detailed review of their qualifications. Critical to the success of this plan will be a continuing dialogue with all campus constituencies who together will advise the committee about the needs and goals of the college as well as inform preparation of a position statement that provides a thorough assessment of Reed's strengths and a lucid summary of those areas where our next president could best apply their efforts to advance the goals of the college.

Regular news and updates will be shared with the community. You can access the position statement here. We encourage community involvement and recommendations of potential candidates. Input should be directed to presidentialsearch@reed.edu
