Subject: Welcome to the new school year

August 28, 2023

Dear Reed community,

As I start my fifth school year at Reed, it is a joy to engage in the rituals and festivities that take place as summer turns to fall. The energizing influx of new and returning students to campus from a wide diversity of lived experiences reminds me of the important work we do here at Reed.

Something I love about our approach to the liberal arts is seeing how our students break traditional boundaries and creatively shape their futures. We nurture biologists who are watercolor artists; dancers who study computer science; psychology majors who are creative writers (sometimes in multiple languages). The ability to draw insight and inspiration from across disciplines leads to innovation and the betterment of society.

Because of the expert instruction and leading-edge research of our faculty and the professional guidance and skill of our staff, our students are able to succeed and thrive. Thank you to our faculty and staff for making Reed such a special place for our students, each other, and the wider community.

Students, whether you are returning or are new to Reed, I look forward to seeing you this year and getting to experience your performances, learn about your classes and research, and share in your excitement and passion for learning.

Welcome to the new year and all of the opportunities we will have to explore, collaborate, and discover together.

All my best,

Audrey
