Choose one question. Length: 5 - 6 pages.

1. In Book Five, section 78, Herodotus praises the freedom of the Athenians. What does Herodotus mean by Athenian freedom? To what extent does such freedom entail responsibility?

2. Herodotus gives no formal over-arching definition of reliable evidence. Yet, he is not entirely credulous. What for Herodotus constitutes reliable evidence? What principles does he use to assess evidence?

3. How does the chorus define justice in Antigone?

4. How does the Parthenon define what it means to be Athenian?
