Federal Reserve Symposium Information

Our Econ 341 class will participate in a monetary-policy symposium organized by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. The symposium will be held at Reed on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 9. In addition to presentations and briefings by economists from the Fed, teams of Econ 341 students will participate in a mock Federal Open-Market Committee meeting along with students from Portland State University and Lewis & Clark College.

Information on the Fed symposium program can be found here. We will have two groups of six students, each of which will work together to prepare a monetary-policy recommendation for the FOMC meeting. Each group will select one member to make a short (eight-minute) presentation of the group's recommendation. Fed economists Gary Zimmerman and Yelena Takhtamanova will provide extensive briefing materials on a weekly basis leading up to the symposium.
