Reed matches Cal Grants for Californians.

Reed College’s Cal Grant Match is a four-year scholarship that will match or exceed the Cal Grant for California residents. This new initiative works in conjunction with the Reed Promise, which is our commitment to cover all tuition costs for families making less than $100,000 a year. In addition, Reed will continue to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need, thereby ensuring that California families have access to one of the nation's top colleges.

Do I need to re-apply for Reed’s Cal Grant Match each year?

You will be evaluated each year for the Cal Grant Match by submitting your FAFSA and CSS Profile.

Does Reed’s Cal Grant Match cover all four years of Reed?

Yes, if you continue to meet all of the requirements, Reed will renew your Cal Grant Match for each year of your four year degree.

Does Reed’s Cal Grant Match cover housing and meals?

The Cal Grant Match would be applied to your overall bill, which includes housing and meals.

Are there circumstances where a student with a Cal Grant would not qualify for this benefit?

If a student does not meet the Student Aid Index and the income and asset requirements for Cal Grant, then they will not be eligible for this program. However, you may still be eligible for one of our other need based programs like the Reed Grant.

Is there an asset ceiling?

Yes, the asset ceiling for Cal Grant is $111,900.

Does Reed’s Cal Grant Match apply to undocumented/DACA students?

We require students to complete a FAFSA application to be eligible for this program.

Will I still be considered for other aid?

Yes, you will be considered for additional need based aid to help meet your full demonstrated need.

What if I don’t qualify for a Cal Grant?

You can still apply for our other need based aid programs such as the Reed Promise or Reed Grant!
