This is required because there are two separate applications for financial aid. First, to qualify for institutional grant aid from Reed you need to complete the CSS Profile. To ensure accurate data is submitted for the CSS Profile, we require copies of student and parent tax returns.
Secondly, to apply and qualify for federal student aid, the FAFSA is required. The FAFSA uses the Financial Aid Direct Data Exchange (FA-DDX) to allow data to be drawn diretly from IRS records and assure accuracy along with validating the FAFSA.
The tax information needed to determine and verify eligibility for Reed aid encompasses more than just the basic data elements transferred via the Financial Aid Direct Data Exchange. In addition, there may be issues with the transfer of data via the Financial Aid Direct Data Exchange that requires the collection of additional documentation to resolve.
