Sustainability and Environmental Justice Scholar

Esmé is Reed’s first Sustainability and Environmental Justice Scholar. A 2024 Reed grad in English/creative writing, they wrote a thesis on the intersection of language and ecology, and their work has been published widely in outlets including the Adroit Journal and the Cincinnati Review. During their time at Reed, Esmé worked on the grounds crew and in the International Programs Office. In this new role, Esmé supports connections between academic, co-curricular and residential education, with a focus on how arts and humanities can further social and environmental justice.

Sustainability Coordinator

Rachel is a seasoned sustainability professional currently serving as Reed College’s first sustainability coordinator. She holds a master’s degree in leadership for sustainability education and has honed her expertise in driving impactful initiatives across various sectors, including higher education, non-profit, and K–12. At Reed, Rachel runs a student sustainability leadership program, oversees operational and energy efficiency initiatives, and partners with faculty to integrate sustainability in the curriculum.
