Leadership Team

Townsend Angell

Director of Facilities Operations

Townsend has been with Reed College since 1988 and is responsible for project management and coordinated services related to campus construction, renovation, and building and landscape maintenance.

Townsend has a degree in Management and Organizational Leadership from George Fox University and is certified as a Watershed Management Professional through Portland State University. Before coming to Reed, Townsend managed park development for the City of Tualatin for 10 years.

Jeff Blundell

Director of Financial Planning & Risk Management

Jeff joined Reed in 2014. He is responsible for the application and development of economically sound concepts and tools, and using these to communicate the potential financial implications of decisions. Previously, Jeff worked for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Jeff has a BSc honors degree in molecular biology from the University of Sheffield, England, and is a certified management accountant.

Pat Heneghan

Associate to the Vice President & Treasurer

Pat Heneghan has been the associate to the vice president & treasurer since 2010.

Her previous position was director of finance & administration for the Boston office of Genetix USA, a UK-based company. Pat has a bachelor’s degree in history from Mount Holyoke College.

April Sams

Director of Environment Health & Safety

April joined Reed College in 2016. She is responsible for evaluating potentially hazardous conditions, implementing programs, protocols and trainings as ways to mitigate risk, and providing regulatory oversight for local, state, and federal occupational safety laws. Before coming to Reed, April worked at both Oregon Health and Science University and Indiana University in EHS.

April has a degree in Biology from Indiana State University and is a certified Chemical Hygiene Officer from the National Registry of Certified Chemists.

Andrew Lonergan

Senior Investment Officer

Andrew joined Reed in 2006. He is responsible for working alongside the Investment Committee, college staff and external consultants to ensure the prudent management of the Reed College endowment. Previously, Andrew was a hedge fund analyst and client services representative for an investment consultant in Portland that advised ultra-high net worth individuals and families. Before that he spent ten years in New York City working in a variety of roles for Cantor Fitzgerald and Credit Suisse Asset Management.

Andrew has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Mike Tamada

Director of Institutional Research

Mike Tamada has been in institutional research for over 25 years, working on a wide range of projects including designing tables and procedures for storing institutional data; statistical analysis; retention studies; enrollment projections; teaching evaluations; surveys of students, employees, and alumni; and accreditation and assessment.

Mike is a graduate of the University of Chicago and did graduate work in economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Robert Tust

Associate Treasurer & Controller

Robert joined Reed in 2016. He is responsible for the operations of the Business Office, which include payroll, accounts payable, cash management, financial reporting and budgeting. Robert is also responsible for maintaining policies, procedures and controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and the safe guarding of the college's assets. Before joining Reed Robert was a manager at Kaiser Permanente and a senior manager at KPMG LLP.

Robert has a BA in Business Administration from the University of Montana and is a licensed CPA in the State of Oregon.

Jessica Valeske

Director of Bookstore & Auxiliary Services

Jessica joined Reed College in 2016. Before working in higher education, Jessica was at Barnes & Noble for 18 years, managing several different store locations in the Portland area. Jessica has significant experience managing different types of operations, developing and leading teams, and implementing service-oriented strategies.

Jessica has a Bachelor of Arts in English and American Studies from St. Olaf College.

Michelle Valintis

Director of Human Resources

Michelle joined Reed College as director of human resources in 2013. Before working in higher education, Michelle worked in human resources at Genentech, a large biotech company in the San Francisco bay area for ten years. Before her career in human resources, Michelle served in the US Army, completing three tours in Saudi Arabia, including Operation Desert Storm.

Michelle has a BA in biology from Michigan State U. and a MBA with an emphasis in human resources management from San Francisco State U
