Sociolinguistic Artifacts

Drag queens Trixie and Katya discuss a pronunciation of the /ɹ/ phoneme that they have a pretty strongly negative reaction to! From their production of it, it sounds like a plainly alveolar [ɹ], which they seem to be contrasting against the 'normal' retroflex labialized one [ɻʷ]. It's interesting that a small articulatory difference causes such a reaction, and how strong the negative emotion around it is!
