Parent & Family Weekend

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Parent & Family Weekend?

October 29 & 30, 2021.

Where does Parent & Family Weekend take place?

All activities take place on the Reed College campus.

Who can attend in-person?

We are requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination (physical vaccination card or photograph is acceptable) or a negative COVID-19 test (taken within 72 hours arriving on campus) for parents and guests attend any in-person events. Proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test will be verified at check-in; those unable to comply will not be permitted to attend any in-person Parent Family Weekend events. All parents and family member must also comply with Reed's face covering policy while on campus and complete a Daily Health Check.

When can I register?

Advance registration is now closed. Walk up registration will be available at check-in on Friday, October 29, from 3:30–5:30 p.m. in Kaul Auditorium.

Is there programming all day Friday & Saturday? When should I plan to fly into Portland?

Activities will begin Friday afternoon with registration opening at 3:30 p.m. Register at check-in to receive your name badge with proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test. President Audrey Bilger will be welcoming and mingling with parents from 4–5 p.m. Saturday’s activities will start around 9 a.m. and will conclude in the afternoon. We recommend arriving on Thursday or early on Friday and departing on Sunday.

Should I attend every activity?

You may attend as many or as few activities as you wish. The schedule is designed to give you important information on your student’s college experience, while also providing an opportunity to spend time with your student and learn the different ways that you can support them throughout their journey at Reed.

Are parents and family members allowed to attend a class(es) on Friday?

We are thrilled that you are interested in your student’s academic experience. However, logistically, Reed is not in the position to permit parents or family members to attend in-person classes due to our efforts to manage room capacities related to the pandemic.

Is my student welcome to attend the Parent & Family sessions?

Unfortunately no, not this year. Due to capacity limits, all sessions are reserved for parents and family members only.

I am the parent of a sophomore, junior, or senior, and have attended before. Is there something new for me?

Absolutely! This weekend has been designed for all of our Reed families. All families are sure to find unique lectures, events, panel presentations, and information useful for you and your Reedie.

What should I wear?

All events during Parent & Family Weekend are casual, so feel free to dress in comfortable clothing. Portland is known for beautiful fall weather, which can include some sunshine, but is most often rainy and chilly with highs in the 50s.

Where should I stay?

We have several recommendations of where to stay, depending on what part of town you’d like to enjoy during your visit to Portland. Many options are just a short ride from campus on the Max Orange Line.

I have an accessibility request. Whom can I contact to gain assistance?

All campus facilities meet ADA requirements. For questions about accessibility or other special arrangements, please contact Conference & Events Planning at 503-777-7522 or send us an email.
