Parent & Family Weekend

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Parent & Family Weekend?

Reed’s Parent & Family Weekend will be held in person, on Friday, November 1, and Saturday, November 2, 2024.

When can I register?

Registration will go live in September and will continue through October.

Is there programming all day Friday & Saturday? When should I plan to fly into Portland?

Events will begin Friday afternoon. Saturday’s activities will start around 9 a.m. and will conclude in the afternoon. We recommend arriving on Thursday or early on Friday and departing on Sunday.

Should I attend every activity?

You may attend as many or as few activities as you wish. The schedule is designed to give you important information on your student’s college experience, while also providing an opportunity to spend time with your student and learn the different ways that you can support them throughout their journey at Reed.

What if I am unable to attend Parent & Family Weekend?

Sessions will be recorded and available following the event.

Are parents and family members allowed to attend a class(es) on Friday?

We are thrilled that you are interested in your student’s academic experience. However, your student must gain prior approval from their professor in order to have a parent or family member attend their class. Reed is known for small, conference-style classes and space is limited.

Is my student welcome to attend the Parent & Family sessions?

Of course! Your student is welcome at all Parent & Family Weekend events. Although there is no specific programming for siblings or other family members, you’ll find unique offerings for the whole family all weekend.

I am the parent of a sophomore, junior, or senior, and have attended before. Is there something new for me?

Absolutely! This weekend has been designed for all of our Reed families. All families are sure to find unique lectures, events, panel presentations, and information useful for you and your Reedie. All sessions are designed to engage both first-year and upper-division parents.

What are the Commons dining hours?

Lunch:  Monday-Friday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Dinner:  Monday-Friday 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
Brunch: Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

What should I wear?

All events during Parent & Family Weekend are casual, so feel free to dress in comfortable clothing. Portland is known for beautiful fall weather, which can include some sunshine, but is most often rainy and chilly with highs in the 50s.

Where should I stay?

We have several recommendations of where to stay, depending on what part of town you’d like to enjoy during your visit to Portland. Many options are just a short ride from campus on the Max Orange Line.

I have an accessibility request. Whom can I contact to gain assistance?

All campus facilities meet ADA requirements. For questions about accessibility or other special arrangements, please contact Conference & Events Planning at 503-777-7522 or send us an email.
