Creative Writing

Creative Thesis Due Dates

Students proposing to write Creative Theses must meet the same thesis related due dates at the beginning of the semester as other English department majors. There are two deadlines to meet at the beginning of the semester (not counting the Creative Thesis Appeal deadline):

  • August 15 before 12 noon  - Creative Thesis Proposals (see thesis info page) are due to Adam Aristo (aadam@reed.edu). Students are encouraged to discuss their proposals with Committee members. Until the Committee has completed its review, all thesis registrations with specific faculty members should be considered tentative and subject to change.

  • August 15 before 12 noon  - After talking to one or two faculty members of the department about possible thesis topics and advisers, all English majors (unless you have fulfilled the creative writing concentration) must turn in to Adam Aristo (aadam@reed.edu) a list of two or three topics (a single sentence for each topic) on which you would like to write a thesis (one topic can be a statement that you are submitting a creative thesis proposal). You might also name one or two members of the department (or division) with whom you would like to work including those with whom you have discussed a possible adviser relationship. The Department will meet in an effort to match advisers, advisees, and topics in a fair and sensible way. Until the Department has completed this review, all thesis registrations with specific faculty members should be considered tentative and subject to change.

  • Appeals due date: Before 12 noon Tuesday the second week of classes Creative Thesis Appeals (see thesis info page) are due (4 copies) in the box outside the Committee Chair's office.

Additional due dates will be listed on the thesis calendar published by the Division of Literature and Languages office (Psych 116) and available at the beginning of the semester. All thesis due dates are "no later than" dates – material can of course be submitted earlier.
