Auditing
Full-time students and full-time faculty, staff, and their spouses or partners may audit courses with the permission of the instructor. The audit fee is waived, but any fee associated with the course (such as laboratory or studio art fees) must be paid. Individuals not enrolled at Reed may apply to audit courses, but are restricted to auditing no more than two courses in any academic year. Applications to audit are available from the admission office during the week before the start of each semester. The auditor’s fee is $100 per course, per semester, plus any additional course fees. Audited classes are not tracked by the registrar's office.
Auditors in a course should not present an extra strain upon the instructor or class; therefore, auditors will not be permitted in over-enrolled or capped courses or in any graduate course. Auditing of graduate courses is restricted to current and former students of the graduate program.
Those not enrolled at Reed may not audit physical education (PE) courses, with the exception of those who have recently completed a Reed thesis but still require additional PE credit. Registration for auditing PE courses will occur after the close of registration for current students with the approval of the instructor and the director of Athletics, Fitness and Outdoor Programs.
